Menswear (spelling: "Menswe @ r") were a short-lived Britpop band that was active in the mid-1990s and came from Camden . Menswe @ r signed their first recording deal after their fifth appearance and appeared on the cover of Melody Maker before they had recorded a single note. Her clothing style was based on the mod , but her music was inspired by Blur and Elastica .

Career

They generated so much media attention that they appeared on the UK edition of Top of the Pops before their first single was released. This made them the first band to be invited to the show without having released a record. The first single I'll Manage Somehow was only a small success and the second single Daydreamer only came to number 14 on the UK singles chart .

On the one hand, they have been criticized by the British music press because their success was based solely on good looks, not musical talent. On the other hand, this helped Menswe @ r attract readers to New Musical Express and Smash Hits . In 1995 Menswe @ r released their debut album Nuisance and played at the Glastonbury Festival . At the end of the year they released their single Stardust . As the popularity of Britpop declined, Menswe @ r also became quieter. In 1998 they released their second album Hay Tiempo! which was only available in Japan.
