Menyllos

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Menyllos ( Greek  Μένυλλος ) was a Macedonian officer in the 4th century BC.

Life

After the end of the Lamian War in 322 BC Menyllos was appointed by the victorious Macedonian regent Antipater to commander the garrison on Munychia Hill , which ruled Piraeus . Athens, which was defeated in the war, had to accept the installation of a Macedonian garrison in its port as a condition of surrender. The entry of the garrison took place on the 20th of Boëdromion (September 19th), during the celebrations of the Mysteries of Eleusis .

Menyllos was considered a friend of Phocion , who was at the head of the oligarchic regime in Athens loyal to Macedonia. Nevertheless, he is said to have tried to bribe this, but Phokion refused. In 319 BC He was replaced by Nikanor at his post according to Kassander's instructions , even before Antipater's death became public. After that, Menyllos is no longer mentioned.
