Mephisto is an internationally known shoe manufacturer that manufactures branded shoes for the city as well as for certain outdoor and fitness areas and sells them internationally under the label of the same name . Shoes and sandals for women and men are offered under the brand names Mephisto, Mobils, Sano and Allrounders.
history
Mephisto SA, formerly Martin Shoes, was founded in 1965 by Martin Michaeli, a German who started his career at a very young age in the USA and wanted to set up his own company in Europe on his return after several years. He chose Sarrebourg in Lorraine as the location . In 1972 Martin Michaeli invented the Mephisto shoe Rainbow, which is said to have been copied over 187 times by other companies.
The head office of the group of companies is the Lorraine city of Sarrebourg. There are subsidiaries in the USA (Nashville), Canada (Montreal), Japan (Tokyo) and Portugal (Viana do Castelo).
The production facilities in France and Portugal together produce around 20,000 pairs of shoes and sandals per day. About 18,000 shoe stores sell Mephisto in more than 80 countries. Sales outside France represent 85%. A total of 2,800 people work in Germany and abroad for the manufacture and sale of Mephisto products.

All leathers are full-grain, natural, aniline-dyed and free from PCP . In addition, cork , rubber and Gore-Tex are processed. The production facilities are in France and Portugal .
A number of functions should lead to the advertised "Mephisto comfort". This includes the addition of a soft foam midsole between the upper and the outsole ("soft air"), which is intended to cushion every step when walking.
The shoe collections are completed in sales with care products and various licensed products such as clothing, leather goods, socks, etc.

On the basis of “intercultural marketing” tailored specifically to Mephisto, the sales-related procedures and the products are adapted to national or even regional needs.
Mephisto is present at all important national and international shoe fairs, e.g. B. at the GDS - International Shoe Fair in Düsseldorf, the MICAM in Milan, the MOSSHOES in Moscow.
Awards
- In 1995, President Mitterrand presented Martin Michaeli with the Chevalier dans l ' Ordre national du Mérite ( Knight's Cross in the French National Order of Merit ).
- In 2000, President Chirac made Martin Michaeli Knight of the Legion of Honor. The Légion d'Honneur is the highest honor that France can bestow.
