Zsolt Muzsnay (born June 20, 1965 in Cluj ) is a former Romanian football player and current coach of Hungarian origin. He played a total of 192 games in the Romanian Divizia A , the Hungarian Nemzeti Bajnokság and the Belgian 1st Division . He also took part in the 1990 World Cup.
Player career
Muzsnay started his career in his hometown of Cluj at Universitatea Cluj . There he moved to the first team in 1983 after playing for Luceafărul Bucharest from 1982 to 1983 . With U Cluj he was promoted to Divizia A in 1985 , where he made his debut on March 8, 1986. Then Muzsnay became a regular player. After U Cluj had always placed in midfield, he left the club in 1988 and joined league rivals FC Bihor Oradea . Here he drew attention to himself with nine goals, so that he left Oradea a year later and joined the Romanian top club Steaua Bucharest . With Steaua he was Romanian runner-up in 1990.
After the 1990 World Cup, Muzsnay left Bucharest and moved to the Hungarian Nemzeti Bajnokság , where he joined Videoton Székesfehérvár . As early as 1991 he dared to make the leap to the West and moved to Royal Antwerp in the Belgian 1st Division . In Antwerp he won the Belgian Cup in 1992, but did not get beyond the role of supplementary player, so that he returned to Székesfehérvár a year later and ended his career in 1993.
In 1994 he returned to Székesfehérvár, which was now known as Parmalat Székesfehérvár. As in his second comeback for FC Bihor Oradea in the 1998/99 season, he only made a few appearances.
National team
Muzsnay played a total of six games for the Romanian national football team , but scored no goal. He made his debut on July 31, 1984 against China . It was only used sporadically and was nominated by national coach Emerich Jenei for the 1990 World Cup in Italy, but was not used.
Coaching career
At the beginning of the 2000/01 season Muzsnay was coach of the second division club FC Bihor Oradea . After the commitment of Lajos Détári , he became his assistant coach. When Détári did not appear in time for a friendly game, Muzsnay gave the referee the instruction to whistle the game anyway. Thereupon Détári refused to work with Muzsnay and he had to leave the club soon after. By the summer of 2003 was Muzsnay coach Crişul Aleşd in the Divizia D . On July 9, 2003, he signed a contract as assistant coach of Ionuț Popa at the first division club FC Oradea and in April 2004 was the club's successor to Dumitru Dumitriu . He could no longer prevent relegation at the end of the 2003/04 season and from summer 2004 became assistant coach of the new head coach Marian Bondrea . Muzsnay looked after the club even after it was renamed FC Bihor Oradea in the second half of the 2004/05 season . He then became the coach of Bihoreana Marghita in Divizia D. In October 2006 he was appointed assistant coach of Cristiano Bergodi at the first division club CFR Cluj . With this he reached third place in the table at the end of the 2006/07 season and thus the best placement in the club's history. Nevertheless, Muzsnays contractual relationship was terminated, since Bergodi moved to Rapid Bucharest in June 2007 .
From July 2008 to 2010 he was the coach of FC Bioland Paleu , with whom he was able to win the 2010 season of the Bihor district in League IV , but failed in the relegation to FC Someşul Ileanda from Sălaj district . On February 7th, 2011 he took over the training at Unirea Valea lui Mihai for a short time , before the team then managed to move up to League III under head coach Sándor Csűri . In autumn 2011, his coaching contract with the fourth division club Cetatea Biharia was terminated and in October 2011 Muzsnay became technical director at Kinder Paleu-Cetariu , the league competitor in the season of the Bihor district. Four game days later, coach Ovidiu Lazar was dismissed in the table runner-up and Muzsnay took his place in November 2011.
