The Mercado del Puerto de La Luz is a historic market building in the capital Las Palmas de Gran Canaria in the Canary Islands .

The building in the port area was originally the oldest food and fish market in the city of Las Palmas. The modernist wrought iron building with a floor area of ​​around 1700 m² was built according to the plans of the architect Laureano Arroyo and opened in 1891. The market covered the supply needs of the growing population who settled around Puerto de La Luz in the 1890s .

It is a square building with an octagonal interior glass dome and four entrances that border on the streets Rafael Bento Travieso , Calle Tenerife , Calle López Socas and Calle Albareda . The cast iron support columns are decorated with decorative elements of Art Nouveau. The cross-connecting elements consist of rolled or forged and riveted soft iron parts. In 1994 the building was renovated and rebuilt.

The Mercado del Puerto is one of the most important works of iron architecture on Gran Canaria and was included in the list of Bien de Interés Cultural in 2005 as a monument . The market is one of the city's tourist attractions and today, in addition to the daily grocery market, also includes various smaller shops from a wide variety of industries.
