Max Witschel

Max Witschel (* 1863 ; † 1916 ) was a German naval officer , most recently rear admiral at the disposition .

Live and act

Witschel was an imperial German naval officer who took over naval commands over imperial warships from his place of work in Wilhelmshaven. From September 1905 to June 1906 he was in command of the coastal armored ship SMS Frithjof as Corvette Captain . In the same month he took over command of the small cruiser SMS Niobe until July 1907 . During his command, he was promoted to frigate captain.

From September 1907 he was in command of the large cruiser SMS Prinz Adalbert for three years , during which he was promoted to sea captain in 1908 . In September 1910 he moved from SMS Prinz Adalbert to the bridge of the liner SMS Mecklenburg , where he remained as commander until July 31, 1911, the date his ship was decommissioned. At this time Witschel belonged to the 1st squadron of the high seas fleet .

Witschel's diary entries from his time on the small cruiser SMS Niobe from a trip to East Asia in 1906/07, along with correspondence with his wife and photos, are preserved in the Secret State Archives of Prussian Cultural Heritage .

In 1915 Witschel lived in the Dresden villa suburb of Niederlößnitz in the now listed Villa Makarenkostraße 5 . His rank at the time was Rear Admiral z. D., which, according to the supply files, he had held since at least 1913.
