The Mercatus Center in Arlington (Virginia) is a think tank as well as a private and - according to the self-description - non-profit institute of George Mason University for political and economic research . The think tank was founded by the economist Richard Fink . The university received $ 30 million from industrialists Charles G. Koch and David H. Koch for its establishment .

The Americanist Eva Schweitzer sees the main concern of the Mercatus Center in proving the “harmful influence” of environmental protection laws on the economy.

In 2010, the Wall Street Journal acknowledged the think tank's great influence on the deregulation policy of the George W. Bush administration .
