The Christ Church is an under monument protection standing Evangelical Lutheran Church building in the Upper Franconian town of Kronach .

location

The church building is located east of Kronach's old town at the southeast end of Strauer Straße. The main axis of the church runs with a deviation of about 30 ° clockwise approximately in a north-south direction along Johann-Nikolaus-Zitter-Straße.

history

Due to the history of the city, which belonged to the Catholic monastery of Bamberg for several centuries , Protestant Christians were only granted citizenship in Kronach after the secularization of the monastery in 1803. While around a third of the population is Protestant today, the Protestant parish only had around 400 members when it was founded in 1859. Nevertheless, with financial support from the Gustav-Adolf-Werk, the parish was able to build its parish church, which was consecrated on September 25, 1861. The plans for the construction come from Kreisbaudirektor Zeitler, the work was carried out by master builder Georg Zeuss. The Christ Church was given its current name on September 28, 1986.

The two smaller portals that flank the large main portal on the north side were not set up in their current form until the second half of the 20th century. Originally the portals were located higher up the building and served as access to the gallery , which could only be reached via two covered stairs on the outside of the building.

On July 18, 2014, the dials on the east and south sides of the church tower , which had been affected by the weather, were removed. Both were restored together with the signal box of the tower clock by a company based in Rothenburg ob der Tauber and reassembled on the church tower on October 28, 2014.
