Strap It On is the debut album of Metal - and rock - band Helmet . It was released in 1990 by Amphetamine Reptile Records .

Origin and style

The album was recorded with Wharton Tiers at the Fun City studio in New York City . Tiers acted as producer and sound engineer at the same time and took over the mixing of the album. The sound of the album is described as rough and unpolished. The album was re-released by Interscope Records in November 1991, before Meantime was released. The later guitarist of the band Chris Traynor called the album "one of the most important rock records ever".

In 2005 the Deftones covered Sinatra on B-Sides & Rarities .

reception

Jason Birchmeier of Allmusic wrote that the qualities that set the album apart also limited its “appeal”: it was still too “harsh” for many alternative rock or metal fans. The production is "borderline lo-fi ". He awarded four out of five stars.

Early pressings of the album incorrectly give the third track as Bad Moon . The Japanese version includes the bonus track Impressionable , which can also be found on the Amphetamine-Reptile-Kompilations-7 "-EP Dope, Guns 'n' Fucking in the Streets Vol. 5. FBLA means Future Business Leaders of America .
