The Mercedes-Benz Arena (梅赛德斯 - 奔驰 文化 中心; Pinyin: Méisàidésī-Bēnchí Wénhuà Zhōngxīn) is a multi-purpose arena in Shanghai , People's Republic of China . Due to its shape, the hall has nicknames such as mussel or hamburger .

Names

The Shanghai Arena was the venue for the World Expo 2010 and was named Shanghai World Expo Cultural Center (上海 世博 会 文化 中心). Construction began in 2007 and opened in 2010. The name was changed to the sponsor Mercedes-Benz in 2011. The ten-year contract was extended for a further five years until 2025.

use

The multi-purpose arena has a capacity of 18,000 spectators and is preferably used for concerts. Some of the international artists who have performed here include: Metallica , Justin Bieber , The Rolling Stones , Lionel Richie , André Rieu , Ariana Grande and Taylor Swift .
