The Mesoproterozoic (= middle Proterozoic ) is an era (or an age) in the history of the earth . It represents the middle era within the Proterozoic Eon . The Mesoproterozoic follows the Paleoproterozoic and is replaced by the Neoproterozoic . The beginning of the Mesoproterozoic Era is set at around 1,600 million years ago and its end around 1,000 million years.
geology
In the area of geological development, the Mesoproterozoic is characterized, among other things, by the formation of the supercontinent Rodinia .
biology
In the Mesoproterozoic, eukaryotes , living beings with cell nuclei , appeared for the first time in the history of the earth ; at the end of the era there is sexual reproduction for the first time.
Subdivision of the Mesoproterozoic
The Mesoproterozoic is divided into the following subunits:
- Eon : Phanerozoikum (541-0 mya )
-
Eon : Proterozoikum (2500-541 mya)
- Era : Neoproterozoic (1000-541 mya)
- Era: Mesoproterozoic (1600–1000 mya)
- Era: Paleoproterozoic (2500–1600 mya)
- Eon: Archean (4000-2500 mya)
- Eon: Hadean (4600-4000 mya)
