Messukylä
Messukylä ( Swedish Messuby ) is a former municipality in Finland . It has been part of Tampere since 1947 .
history
The name Messukylä was first mentioned in 1439. In 1546 Messukylä with 29, Takahuhti with 28 and Tammerkoski with 14 houses were the largest villages in the municipality.
In 1922 Järvensivu was incorporated into the city
The city of Tampere was originally founded in 1779 in the municipality of Messukylä. In the course of industrialization, it quickly grew to many times the population of Messukylä and expanded more and more into the municipality of Messukylä. During the Finnish Civil War (1918) there was heavy fighting over the Old Church. Messukylä was finally incorporated into Tampere in 1947, which more than doubled the area of Tamperes.
Attractions
The Old Church of Messukylä is the oldest building in the city of Tampere. From 1434 to 1520 this was a wooden church, which was replaced by a stone church in 1520.
Messukylä's new church was built in 1879.
