Metagrid

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Metagrid is a platform for online networking of humanities resources.

Offer and organization

Metagrid enables automatic or manual linking between identical entities (e.g. people, corporations or geographic locations) from different websites or databases.

According to Marie-Christine Doffey, director of the Swiss National Library , Metagrid "is a stable linking tool that can be managed for the participating projects without much effort. It allows (...) easy and direct access to further literature, lexical information, images or other sources to get to a person. " For example, the entry on Albert Einstein in Metagrid links to the following platforms (as of 2017):

Metagrid's links can be easily integrated into other websites.

Metagrid is a project of the Swiss Academy of Humanities and Social Sciences (SAGW), implemented by the Diplomatic Documents of Switzerland (Dodis) with the support of the Historical Lexicon of Switzerland (HLS). It was started in 2015 and is constantly taking on new partners.

technology

Metagrid is based on a web service in which the unique ID of the entity (person, organization, etc.) is recorded. If they match, the corresponding entity IDs of the participating projects are merged. This can prevent the links from becoming void due to changes in the URLs. Metagrid can be integrated into a website using a widget . All you need is two lines of HTML code.
