Metacognitive training for depression

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Metacognitive Training for Depression (D-MCT) is an approach to treating depressed patients and is a further development of cognitive behavioral therapy .

background

Metacognition , in short, means "thinking about thinking". In the D-MKT, according to current research results, distortions of thought typical of depression (e.g. “should statements” and “intellectual filter”) are discussed. In addition, distortions in general information processing in the sense of a cognitive style (e.g. memory, emotion recognition) and dysfunctional coping strategies (e.g. brooding, thought suppression), which are typical of depression, are addressed in the training. Initial randomized controlled trials supported the feasibility of the approach and reported evidence of its effectiveness beyond the immediate intervention period.
