Methanex is the world's largest producer of methanol from synthesis gas . In 2013, the estimated market share was 18%. The production capacity is 7.34 million t per year, of which 4.344 million t were used in 2013. With Waterfront Shipping Limited , the company also operates a fleet of methanol tankers.
Methanex was formed by splitting up Ocelot Industries and in 1991 took over the North American methanol business from Metallgesellschaft .
