The MetroCentre (since 2013: intu metrocentre) is one of the largest shopping centers in Europe . The shopping center is located in Gateshead near Newcastle on a former industrial site. It was opened in 1986 and until 2010 contained an amusement park (Metroland) that had been closed for a long time and around 330 shops. The MetroCentre belongs to the Capital Shopping Centers Group , now intu properties plc.
