Metro Decay was a Greek new wave band from the 1980s, considered one of the earliest and most influential bands of the Athens and Greek post-punk era.
history
Metro Decay's music is characterized by keyboard- dominated, gloomy sounds, some of which are strongly reminiscent of The Cure and similar British models. The texts, all in Greek, which was a rarity at the time, convey a pessimistic, claustrophobic basic perspective.
In 1982 they gave concerts with Nick Caves Band The Birthday Party and in the following year released their first single Σκιές / Κειμήλια (in German: Shadows / Reliquien ), followed by their first and last LP in 1984 Υπέρβαση ( Overcoming ) on Greece's most famous independent label 1980s, Creep Records .
Years after the band broke up, Metro Decay was voted Greece's great music hope in reader surveys by the Greek music magazine Pop and Rock .
