Metta sutta
The Metta-Sutta is a discourse ( Sanskrit : Sutra ) of the Buddha on goodness ( Pali : mettā , Sanskrit: Maitrī). In Buddhist literature , the sutta in the Palikanon is assigned to the Khuddaka-Nikaya (collection of short discourses). It is there in the book Sutta-Nipata . The metta sutta is often recited in Sri Lanka and Southeast Asia.
A well-known verse reads:
"As a mother protects her own son, your only child with her life,
so may one develop one's spirit to all living beings without barriers!"
