Adhémar Schwitzguébel (* 1844 in Sonvilier , † July 23, 1895 in Biel ) was a Swiss anarchist and theoretician of collectivist anarchism . He was a co-founder of the Jura Federation and a member of the First International .

Life

Adhémar Schwitzguébel was born in the Swiss Jura . His father was an engraver and took part in the political battles of 1848 . Adhémar Schwitzguébel learned his father's trade and founded a section of the First International in Sonvilier in March 1866. He met Mikhail Bakunin and later became a member of his organization Alliance. After the failure of the Paris Commune, he went to Paris to enable some Communards to escape with forged passports . Under the impression of the conflict between Marx and Bakunin, he formed the Jura Federation together with James Guillaume and other "anti-authoritarian" and wrote for their newspaper Bulletin de la Fédération jurassienne . After Bakunin and Guillaume were expelled from the International, the Jura Federation became the center of the anarchist movement and Saint-Imier in the Swiss Jura became the venue for the first anti-authoritarian international . After the dissolution of the Jura Federation, he moved to Biel and died there of stomach cancer at the age of 51 .
