Mettinger Strasse 19

The house Mettinger Straße 19 in Esslingen am Neckar was built in 1578 and 1905 translocated and transformed.

history

According to an inscription on the left corner post of the upper floor, the two-story house was built in 1578 and once belonged to the Spitalmüller. At times it was also owned by the glove maker Bodmer. The house originally stood on the neighboring property at Mettinger Straße 17. In 1905 it had to give way to a new villa for the Schimpf family and was moved by Erasmus Rückgauer within seven days by rail. Albert Benz , who also planned the new villa on the neighboring property, redesigned the house at that time. It received nailed half-timbering in the style of the Renaissance . Around 1920/30 a gate on the left side of the house was replaced by two windows. Decades later, the garden wall on the left side of the house was torn down to make room for a factory entrance, and the associated neo-Gothic portal was moved to the right side of the house. The villa, which it once had to give way, was torn down again in 1956.
