Mhorag [ ˈvɔrak ] ( Gaelic : spirit of the lake ), also Morag or Maggie , is the name of a plesiosaur-like sea ​​monster that is said to live in Loch Morar in Scotland .

Alleged sightings

Mhorag has been observed about 30 times since January 1887, u. a .:

  • August 16, 1969: Fishermen Duncan McDonell and William Simpson saw a monster almost 10 meters long with a head 20 centimeters thick, three humps on its back and brown skin on Loch Morar in the evening. The sea monster allegedly swam against the boat and tried to attack it. Only when the fishermen shot at Mhorag did it submerge in the water.
  • September 1958: Dr. George Cooper spotted the monster and made a drawing of it.
  • 1970: Neil Bass, a member of the Loch Ness Investigation Bureau , sighted the sea monster.
  • April 1971: Ewan Gillies and his son John allegedly watched the sea monster from the shore as it swam through Loch Morar. According to her description, Mhorag was about six meters long, had a small head no thicker than his long, slender neck, and had two or three humps on his back. They photographed it, but there was nothing unusual in the pictures.
  • 1996: A diver looking for the sea monster in Loch Morar found a skeleton about 18 meters below the surface. This came from a deer , which he interpreted as the remains of Mhorag's hunted prey.
