Línea Amarilla

Mi Teleférico ( German : my cable car ) is currently the world's largest urban cable car network with ten lines and a total length of 30.431 kilometers . The gondola lifts open up the Bolivian seat of government La Paz and the neighboring city of El Alto and transport more than 300,000 passengers a day. The first line was opened in 2014, the network is currently still being expanded. It is operated by the state operating company Mi Teleférico .

history

Network plan (2019)

Local public transport in La Paz and El Alto consisted mainly of minibuses . Due to traffic jams, which can be attributed to the topographically narrow streets and the dense development of the two cities, these are mostly unpunctual. In addition, there are often hygiene and safety deficiencies. The construction of routes for tracks is sometimes not possible due to the topography. Therefore, the construction of cable cars as a means of transport for people was considered long before the Bolivian government commissioned the Austrian cable car construction company Doppelmayr to build initially three lines at a cost of the rumored 234.6 million US dollars . Financing came from the state treasury. On May 30, 2014, the then Bolivian President Evo Morales opened the Línea Roja and thus the first line of the network for public operation. It leads from the Jach'a Qhathu mountain station in El Alto via the Ajayuni intermediate station in La Paz near the municipal cemetery to the Taypi Uta valley station . The line is 2,349 meters long and the journey takes about eleven minutes. On September 15, 2014, the second line was opened with the Línea Amarilla . With a length of 3737 meters, it was the longest until the Línea Azul was built. The third line ( Línea Verde ) went into operation on December 4, 2014 . The Línea Verde has a length of 3706 meters. This ended the first construction phase of the Mi Teleférico project .

On March 3, 2017, the Línea Azul, the first cable car of the second construction phase, was opened. The financial volume of this second construction phase was estimated by the South American media at 560 million US dollars. The company Doppelmayr had been commissioned with the construction again in 2015, for which the Mi Teleférico project became one of the largest in the company's history. Initially, five more lines were planned, most of which were already under construction when the Línea Azul opened . The Línea Azul is entirely in El Alto. The connection to the Línea Roja connects other parts of the city with La Paz. At 4893 meters, the line is the longest in the entire network. On September 29, 2017, the fifth line followed with the Línea Naranja . In the course of 2018, the Línea Blanca and the first section of the Línea Celeste , the second section of the Línea Celeste on July 14 and the Línea Morada at the end of September went into public service. After the Línea Café opened on December 20, 2018, the Línea Plateada went into operation in March 2019 . This connects Línea Roja , Línea Azul , Línea Morada and Línea Amarilla and thus closes the last segment of the urban cable car ring. With the Línea Dorada , an eleventh line is to be opened in the course of 2020. In addition, it is planned to extend the Línea Café by another station in order to develop the Pampahasi district in La Paz.

Line network

The ten lines of the Mi Teleférico have a total length of 30.431 kilometers and comprise a total of 36 stations. Crossing stations are counted with the number of lines that run to them. The individual lines, which are differentiated by the colors of their gondolas, have between two and five stations. The driving speed is five to six meters per second. The operating hours are from Monday to Saturday between 6 a.m. and 11 p.m. and on Sunday between 7 a.m. and 9 p.m. The lines generally have a capacity of 3000 people per hour and direction. The Línea Café (2000 people / hour / room) and the Línea Celeste (4000 people / hour / room) are an exception . On the Línea Morada , the transport capacity diverges between individual sections of 3000 to 4000 people per hour and direction. A total of around 1400 gondolas, each with space for ten people, are in use. The monocable gondolas are detachable, which means that the gondolas at the stations are taken off the rope and thus slowed down for entry and exit.
