Mic Dubbed (also briefly: MD ) (from Dubbed or dubbing of English to dub , German: Synchronize, and mic for microphone ) is an expression to an audio recording technology and in this context means the replacement of the original sound in video footage.

In the warez scene, mic dubbed refers to the sound of a film illegally recorded in the cinema. The sound is then added to an existing image source. In most cases, the video material from the country in which the film was made is used, since the films appear first in the countries in which they were made and a video source is usually already available.

With mic dubbed films, the sound of the film is recorded by an MP3 player with a line-in connection and a plugged-in microphone . The built-in microphone of the camcorder is simply used for this . The sound is of poor quality compared to line dubbed . B. laughs or conversations of the moviegoers are recorded. The quality of the recording can vary greatly as it depends primarily on the external circumstances, e.g. B. from the seating position or from the general volume in the cinema.

In the rarest of cases, the picture is also filmed from the cinema screen at the same time (" cam rip "). As a rule, existing image material from the country in which the film was made is used, as the release date there is usually well before that of other countries and one or more video sources are usually already available.

The original video material is demultiplexed, which means that video and sound are separated. To replace the sound track you use z. B. the editing program Sony Vegas . There the two audio files are displayed in wave form one above the other. Now the sound recorded in the cinema is adapted to the original sound, whereby the adjustment to the correct frame rate must also be taken into account. As soon as both audio files are in sync , the microphone sound can be merged with the video file.
