Special features are the options for workflow customization through scripting and operation: Many processing steps take place directly on the timeline. Windows standards such as drag'n'drop ensure a simple workflow . External controllers such as B. the MackieControlUniversal or the Contour JogShuttle work together with the software. The Vegas material organization includes a media manager, flexible folder structure and search function. The various integrated title modules can be used for B. with Heroglyph from proDAD, graffiti from BorisFX, etc. can be added. Vegas supports ASIO , VST and DirectX as audio standards . Voiceover , CD mastering and multi-track recordings are also possible . The effects and compositing options include color correction , chroma - keying , soft slow motion - even with dynamic acceleration and deceleration -, frame rate conversion, animations in 3D space, parent-child tracking links to inheritance of properties and various import and export functions.

The following programs can be combined with Vegas Pro: Hitfilm as compositing software, Cubase SX z. B. via MidiTimeCode , the After Effects plug-ins z. B. via BorisRed or WaveLab via "Send to external audio editor". In addition to editing, Vegas Pro can therefore also be used to merge other production steps in a video production. A high degree of compatibility exists through support for Windows standards, including OpenDML , DirectX, .NET scripting and Windows Media Video . Additional playback codecs that need to be installed are not required to use the software.

From version 11 the majority of the internal filters are based on the OFX standard, so that, for example, the keyframing of each individual filter parameter can also be controlled using Bézier curves . In addition, the OpenCL architecture is now used to use the graphics processor both for rendering and for various editing processes, for example to achieve better playback performance when using effects.

Format support

In addition to DV and MPEG-2, Vegas Pro supports HD formats such as XAVC, P2 AVC-Intra, HDCAM SR, HDV, AVCHD and XDCAM HD 422. As of September 2008, Vegas Pro version 8.1 based on Windows Vista 64 also supports 64- Bit systems. Vegas Pro 9.0 is shipped from the ground up in 32-bit and 64-bit versions and supports 4K resolution. Current versions only support 64-bit platforms. From version 10, the processing of 3D material is also supported. Version 14 supports the import and export of HEVC videos for the first time.

Vegas Movie Studio

Vegas Movie Studio is the entry-level version of Vegas Pro. This software does not contain the same professional features as Vegas Pro: SDI support, remote controller, scripting or extensive compositing options are missing, for example. The preconfigured Vegas interface was retained. The Movie Studio project format can also be opened with Vegas Pro.
