WaveLab is music software developed by the French musician and programmer Philippe Goutier. WaveLab is distributed by the Steinberg company and is mainly used in professional studio technology and in the digital post-production of music and other audio material. Wavelab has the plug-in interfaces VST and DirectX , as well as internal effects such as dithering . In addition to the classic cutting function, i.e. H. cutting digital audio files, the software offers tools for analysis, modification and processing of multiple files at the same time.

It can be used for recording and post-processing in all common formats, i. H. in the mastering and post-production area for audio montages and individual audio files. In version 5, WaveLab supports up to 8 channels for WAVE files with a maximum sampling rate of 32 bit / 192 kHz. Since version 9 it supports a maximum sampling rate of 384 kHz. WaveLab also offers the possibility of premastering audio CDs and DVD-Audio .

In the audio montage working mode, audio files can be edited without permanently changing them (so-called " non-destructive editing "). With assemblies created in this way, CDs, DVDs or individual audio tracks can be mastered.

Import and export of various formats with adaptation of bit depth and sampling rate is possible. This includes both internally supported formats and those that can be used via an ACM filter. Audio CD and DVD audio tracks can be imported directly into the program. Further functions include batch processing and encoding as well as an extensive software signal generator .

The first version of the program came on the market in 1995 , the current version is WaveLab 10. Slimmed-down versions of the program are also available, which are cheaper than the full version, but also have limited functionality.
