The Magix Software GmbH (in-house spelling MAGIX Software GmbH or short MAGIX ) is an international software developer and publisher with a focus on music and video software for professionals and semi-professionals / DIY users. The company's headquarters are in Berlin. Other locations are Madison (USA), Dresden and Lübbecke . On May 28, 2018, the private equity company capiton announced that it had acquired the majority of the shares in Magix Software GmbH together with the management around Managing Director Klaus Schmidt.
Product history
In 1994 the first Magix Music Maker was released. Starting in 1996, Magix's range was expanded to include software for designing, editing, presenting and archiving photos and videos. From 1997 the products and services were also distributed in other European countries and in the USA.
In 2001 the first version of Magix Movie Edit Pro was published. In 2002 the first version of Magix Photos came on the market on CD & DVD .
In November 2008, Magix initiated the knowledge community magix.info as an independent social network for experts in the fields of music production, video and photo editing. Also in 2008, Magix released the software, Video Pro X, for professional requirements, but based on the same platform as Movie Edit Pro.
In 2009 the first version of Magix Video easy, a video editing program especially for beginners, was published.
From 2013, Magix expanded its range to include apps such as Camera MX, Looparoid and Magix Movie Edit Touch.
In 2014 the video editing program Magix Fastcut was published, which is aimed specifically at users with drones and action cameras .
In May 2016 Magix acquired Vegas Pro , Movie Studio, Sound Forge Pro , Sound Forge Audio Studio, SpectraLayers and Acid Pro from the Sony Creative software product range.
Products
The range of products and services offered by Magix Software GmbH includes solutions in particular for the digital processing of music, videos and photos.
In the music sector, Magix sells software that is aimed at professional users, e.g. B. SOUND FORGE Pro, ACID Pro, Samplitude Pro X and Sequoia. Semi-pro music products are e.g. B. Samplitude Music Studio and the Music Maker. The Magix software makes it possible to produce finished pieces of music without additional programs, based either on pre-made samples or on your own recordings.
In the video sector, Magix offers software for professional customers such as VEGAS Pro and Video Pro X. Movie Edit Pro is aimed at semi-pros / DIY users with a certain amount of previous experience and higher demands on video editing. Movie Edit Pro is one of the best-selling video editing programs worldwide and is the market leader in Europe. Magix offers products such as Video easy or Fastcut for beginners without previous knowledge of video editing. In the photo area, Magix offers programs for creating digital slide shows, e.g. B. MAGIX Photostory Deluxe , as well as software for editing individual photos, e.g. B. MAGIX Photo & Graphic Designer, as well as for managing photo collections, e.g. B. MAGIX Photo Manager Deluxe. Xara Designer Pro also offers software for professional editing of graphics and photos. Magix also develops applications for mobile devices such as Camera MX, Looparoid or Movie Edit Touch.
