Acid Pro (often ACID ) is music software for digital audio workstations developed by Magix Software . It was originally called Acid pH1 and was published by Sonic Foundry , later by Sony Creative Software as Acid Pro, and since spring 2018 by Magix both as Acid Pro and as a simplified version, Acid Music Studio .

Acid Pro 8 runs on 32-bit and 64-bit architectures and supports MIDI , ASIO , VST , VST3, DirectX audio and 5.1 surround sound.

history

Acid was first marketed as Acid pH1 in 1998 by Sonic Foundry of Madison, Wisconsin . It was a loop- based music sequencer in which acid loop files could be simply dragged and dropped and then automatically adjusted to the tempo and key of a song using time stretching , with practically no significant loss of sound.

A website for aspiring musicians using acid technology called AcidPlanet.com was created. The software became hugely popular in the late 1990s and early 2000s with composers, producers, and DJs who were interested in quickly creating beats, musical textures, or full compositions and orchestrations that would work at virtually any tempo or pitch and tempo .

Sonic Foundry sold its Acid, Vegas, Sound Forge , CD-Architect, Siren, VideoFactory, ScreenBlast and Batch Converter product lines to Sony Pictures Digital in July 2003 . The new Sony Creative Software division emerged from the merger . With Sony's Acid Pro 6 (published in the third quarter of 2006) is a fully digital audio workstation was introduced, which also MIDI and multitrack audio recordings with full support for ASIO computer audio and VST Synthesizer - Plugin contained standards. Sound Forge 7 was released at the same time.

On May 20, 2016, the German company Magix Software GmbH announced that it had acquired the majority of the products in the Sony Creative Software portfolio. These include Acid Pro, Vegas Pro, Movie Studio, and Sound Forge Pro. Acid Pro 8, the first version since the Magix acquisition, was announced on January 21, 2018 and released in spring 2018. The update included new features including an improved user interface, support for 64-bit, additional samples, VST3 support, over 20 DirectX audio effects, the ability to mix 5.1 surround sound, and new features called Media Manager, BeatMapper, and Chopper.

Acid Pro runs on PCs with all versions of Microsoft Windows since Windows 2000. Acid Pro 8 requires Windows 8.1 or higher. There are no versions for macOS or Linux. Acid Pro 11 uses and requires 64-bit technology.

Acid loops

Acid Loop (trademark), also called acidized or acidified loop , refers to a sound clip that can be repeated and transposed to form a song with minimal manual adjustment. Acidized loops contain tempo and key information so that Acid can stretch the clip in time and shift the pitch to fit into an existing track structure. A Acidized loop is a specially prepared WAV - audio file that can be created with an audio editing tool like Sound Forge.

The technology was developed in 1998 for Sonic Foundry's original Acid pH1 software. Sony and Magix later sold a number of acidized loop sample CDs for Acid Pro, as did various third-party suppliers. Since then, this looping technique has been adopted by most other digital audio workstations on the market, sometimes with competing brand names for the feature, such as Cakewalk Sonar (called Groove Clips) and Cubase (called Audio Warp). Many DAWs can also directly import acidized loops intended for use in Acid Pro.
