Takahashi Shinji

Takahashi Shinji ( Japanese 高橋 信 次 ; born January 28, 1912 in Nihonmatsu ( Fukushima Prefecture ); died April 2, 1985 ) was a Japanese medic specializing in X-ray diagnosis.

Live and act

Takahashi Shinji graduated from the Faculty of Medicine at Tōhoku University in 1938 . In 1941 he became head of the "Department of Radiological Medicine" (放射線 医学 教室, Hōshasen igaku kyōshitsu) of his alma mater, with Koga Yoshihiko (古 賀 良 彦; 1901-1967) being his teacher. After various intermediate positions, he became a professor at Nagoya University .

Takahashi is known for his development of rotating, multi-color recording and magnifying X-rays. This enabled three-dimensional images of the body, which led to a better diagnosis. He also made important contributions to radiological diagnostics and was President of the “Aichi Cancer Center” (愛 知 県 が ん セ ン タ ー). Takahashi also served on the International Commission on Radiological Protection .

In 1977 Takahashi received the Imperial Advancement Award (恩賜 賞, Onshi-shō) of the Academy of Sciences , in 1979 he was honored as a person with special cultural merits and in 1984 was awarded the Order of Culture . In 1985 the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences awarded him a gold medal.
