Michael S. Comay (1958)

Michael Saul Comay (* 1908 in Cape Town , South African Union ; † November 6, 1987 in Jerusalem ) was an Israeli diplomat.

Comay grew up in South Africa and studied law . During the Second World War he served in the infantry of the South African Army ( Union Defense Force ) with the rank of major and was used in North Africa, among other places. After the war, Comay gave up his work as a lawyer in Cape Town and emigrated with his wife and two children to the British mandate of Palestine . There he worked for the Jewish Agency .

During his diplomatic career, Comay served as the Israeli ambassador to Canada from 1953 to 1957, as Israel's permanent representative to the United Nations in New York from 1960 to 1967 , and as the Israeli ambassador to the United Kingdom from 1970 to 1973 .

In 1979 Comay resigned from the diplomatic service and spent his old age with his wife in Jerusalem. He died there in November 1987 at the age of 79.
