Michael Erni

Michael Erni (* 1956 in Olten ) is a Swiss musician, guitarist, composer and guitar teacher.

Erni is one of the most renowned Swiss guitarists of his generation. He completed his studies at the Zurich Conservatory with a teaching and concert diploma. He obtained his soloist diploma at the Bern Conservatory with "distinction" from Miguel Rubio. This was followed by further studies with Andrés Segovia and Pepe Romero , master classes with William Kanengiser ( Los Angeles Guitar Quartet ), Robert Brightmore and Steven Thachuk.

Michael Erni produced various TV, radio and CD recordings. In it, he impressively documents his virtuoso technique, his diverse, fascinating creative possibilities and his intimate relationship to Spanish music.

He has a wide range of concert activities, including at international guitar festivals. As a soloist he has played with the Festival Strings Lucerne, the Zurich Symphony Orchestra, the M. Nostitz Quartet, Prague, etc.

As a composer, Michael Erni has created works for guitar and for various chamber music ensembles, including three concerts for guitar and orchestra, which were successfully played in the Zurich Tonhalle, among others. Various of his works have been published in Germany, including by the renowned music publisher "Zimmermann-Frankfurt".

Michael Erni has received various awards for his versatile musical work. In 2011 he was named “Artist of Royal Classics Strings”, an award from the Spanish string manufacturer of the same name.
