Michael Gertz

Michael Gertz (* 1965 in Wuppertal ) is a German computer scientist and lecturer at the Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg .

Life

Gertz studied computer science at the University of Dortmund from 1986 to 1991 . In 1996 he was at the University of Hannover with the work Diagnosis and repair of Constraint Violations in Database Systems Dr. rer. nat. PhD. From 1997 he taught and researched as a member of various research groups at the University of California, Davis . From 2003 to 2008 he was an associate professor of computer science there. Since 2008 he has been a full professor at the Institute for Computer Science at Heidelberg University . From October 2014 to October 2016 he was dean of the Heidelberg Faculty for Mathematics and Computer Science, and since 2016 he has been Managing Director of the Institute for Computer Science.

Gertz's main research areas are the extraction of information from unstructured data, the application of various data and text mining processes and methods of network analysis to extracted data. He is also co-editor of numerous half-timbered works.
