Michael Henry

Michael "Mike" Henry (born June 1935 in Spanish Town , St. Catherine ) is a Jamaican politician ( JLP ). From September 2007 to November 2011, he was Jamaica's Minister of Transport and Works .

Life

Henry attended St. Catherine Elementary School, Beckford & Smith High School and studied at Ealing Technical College in the UK. He is a professional writer and publisher and has been Chairman of Kingston Publishers Ltd. since 1980 . He is married and has four kids.

politics

In 1976, Henry first ran for a seat in the House of Representatives as the Jamaica Labor Party (JLP) candidate in the Central Clarendon constituency , but was not elected. In the following election in 1980 he succeeded in entering parliament, since then he has won the Central Clarendon constituency in all elections. Henry has held various high government offices in the past, including Minister of Tourism and Agriculture and Minister of State for Information .

In the general election on September 3, 2007 he managed to win Central Clarendon again, and when the JLP formed the new government after winning the election, Henry was appointed Minister of Transport and Construction. The swearing-in took place on September 14, 2007. When Andrew Holness succeeded Bruce Golding as Prime Minister, he first took over Henry as Minister in his government. Henry came increasingly into public criticism because of his handling of the responsibility for the Jamaica Development Infrastructure Program (JDIP). As a result, Prime Minister Holness withdrew his responsibility for the road construction project on November 19, 2011. On November 29th, Henry resigned as Minister. He was succeeded by Shahine Robinson .
