Michael Lord, Baron Framlingham

Michael Nicholson Lord, Baron Framlingham (born October 17, 1938 in South Manchester ) is a British politician. He was a Conservative Party MP in the House of Commons and currently sits as a Life Peer in the House of Lords .

Youth and pre-parliamentary careers

He studied at Christ's College, Cambridge , where he earned an MA in Agriculture in 1962 . From 1962 to 1966 he was a teacher at a school in North Bedfordshire. From 1966 to 1968 he was director of Power Line Maintenance Ltd. In 1968 he founded Lords Tree Services Ltd. From 1983 he was an agricultural advisor in addition to his parliamentary activities. He was president of the Arboricultural Association .

Political career

He was a councilor in the City of Bedford from 1974 to 1977 and from 1981 to 1983 in Bedfordshire County Council.

He ran in the 1979 general election in the Manchester Gorton constituency and won his first mandate in 1983 in the Central Suffolk constituency .

He was Deputy Speaker of the House of Commons from 1997 , so he gave no political statements and did not take part in votes. Before he took this post, he belonged to the Maastricht rebel group and was classified as conservative, was against homosexuality and advocated the reintroduction of the death penalty.

He was beaten to a Knight Bachelor in 2001 .

Michael Lord did not run in the 2010 general election . His successor in the constituency of Central Suffolk and North Ipswich was Dr. Daniel Poulter, who also ran for the Conservative Party.

On November 19, 2010 it was announced that he would be promoted to life peer and move into the House of Lords for the Conservatives . He was raised to Baron Framlingham , of Eye in the County of Suffolk on January 14, 2011 , and was inducted into the House of Lords on January 18, 2011.

Personal

In 1965 he married Jennifer Margaret Childs, with whom he has a son and a daughter.
