Michael Robert Maas

Michael Robert Maas (born April 24, 1951 ) is an American ancient historian .

Life

He earned a BA from Cornell University in June 1973, a double degree in Anthropology and Classical Antiquity, an MA in Ancient History and Mediterranean Archeology from the University of California, Berkeley December 1975, and a Ph.D. in Ancient History and Mediterranean Archeology at the University of California, Berkeley in December 1982 with the dissertation: Innovation and Restoration in Justinianic Constantinople with Peter Robert Lamont Brown . He teaches at Rice University , where he was Associate Professor 1984-1991 1991-2003 and Assistant Professor at the Department of History, since 2003 he has been Professor at the Department of History ;.

His research interests are Ancient Greece, Rome, Late Antiquity, and Early Byzantium.
