Michael Mancuso

Michael Mancuso (* 1955 ) is an American mobster , high-ranking member of the American mafia and is considered the current head of the Bonanno family in New York City .

biography

In the early 1980s Mancuso was a member of the "East Harlem Purple Gang". In 1984, he shot his wife Evelina and dumped her body near a hospital.

Mancuso was charged, pleaded guilty and sentenced to 10 years in prison for the murder of his wife. In spring 2004 the then "acting boss" Vincent Basciano made him deputy underboss (" Caporegime "). At the end of 2004 he became the new deputy boss (" Underboss ") of the Bonanno family after Vincent Basciano went to prison. In May 2005, then-boss Joseph Massino , who became Pentito , accused Mancuso of involvement in the murder of Gerlando Sciascia .

On February 16, 2006, Mancuso was arrested for this.

In November 2004, Basciano and Mancuso ordered the murder of Randolph Pizzolo, who was an associate of the family.

The murder was carried out by Anthony Aiello. On August 6, 2008, Mancuso and Aiello pleaded guilty to Pizzolo's murder. On December 16, 2008, Mancuso was sentenced to 15 years and Aiello to 30 years in prison.

Mancuso served his sentence at the Federal Correctional Institution, Edgefield , and was released from prison on March 12, 2019.

In June 2013 Mancuso became the new boss of the Bonanno family. This position was last filled by Joseph Massino in 2004. The family is currently run by Underboss Thomas DiFiore.
