Michael McCann (born January 2, 1964 in Glasgow ) is a Scottish Labor Party politician .

Life

McCann was born in Glasgow in 1964 as the son of a craftsman. At the age of four months, the family moved to East Kilbride . McCann attended St Kenneth's Primary School , St Brides High School and St Andrews High School . Between 1982 and 1992 McCann served in the Department for International Development. He then worked full-time for the Civil and Public Services Association until it was dissolved, before joining the successor organization Public and Commercial Services Union until 2008 . McCann is married and has a father of two.

Political career

In 1999 McCann was elected to the South Lanarkshire Regional Council for the Labor Party and became vice-chairman in 2007. He gave up his position at PCS in 2008 to focus more on local politics.

After his party colleague Adam Ingram did not run in the general election in 2010 , the Labor Party set up McCann as his successor in the constituency of East Kilbride, Strathaven and Lesmahagow . With a share of the vote of 51.5%, he clearly prevailed against five opponents and subsequently moved into the British House of Commons for the first time . After the SNP won massive votes in the following general election in 2015 , McCann left the House of Commons after just one term. The mandate went to the SNP candidate Lisa Cameron .
