Lisa Cameron (born April 8, 1972 ) is a Scottish politician of the Scottish National Party (SNP).

Life

Cameron grew up in East Kilbride and attended schools there. She subsequently studied psychology and health sciences and graduated with a BA from the University of Strathclyde , that of an M.Sc. from the University of Stirling and a PhD in clinical psychology (1996–99) from the University of Glasgow . She then worked for the National Health Service in various hospitals as a consultant for patients with mental illness and learning disabilities. She also acts as a court expert in cases of child abuse and domestic violence. Cameron is married and a mother of two.

Political career

In the British general election in 2015 , Cameron ran for the SNP in the constituency of East Kilbride, Strathaven and Lesmahagow . She competed against Labor MP Michael McCann , who has represented the constituency in the British House of Commons since 2010 . After the SNP gained massive votes in these elections, Cameron achieved the highest share of the vote with 55.6% and subsequently entered the House of Commons for the first time. There she is a member of the Committee for International Development. Despite losing votes, Cameron maintained her mandate in the 2017 early general election .
