Michael "Masilo" Modubi (born April 22, 1985 in Polokwane ) is a former South African football player .

Career

In his youth, Modubi lived and trained at the Transnet Soccer School of Excellence , a boarding school for the country's greatest soccer talents sponsored by the South African Football Association. At the Milk Cup 2002, a renowned international youth tournament in Northern Ireland, Modubi, like his team - mates Boy-Boy Mosia and Jeffrey Ntuka-Pule , was scouted by Chelsea and signed in 2003. Because of the comparatively strict requirements for a work permit in Great Britain, Modubi, together with his two comrades, was soon awarded to the Belgian club KVC Westerlo , which is a kind of farm team for Chelsea FC.

“Masilo” Modubi stayed with Westerlo for the next six years, which were very different for him. While he came regularly to inserts in the seasons 2002/03, 2006/07 and 2008/09, he was only a supplementary player in the other seasons. In November 2008 he received a Belgian passport, which means that he will be considered a European under labor law in the future. His contract with Chelsea expired in the summer of 2009.

In 2007 Modubi was appointed to the South African national team for the first time for the COSAFA Cup 2007 and made two appearances in the qualifying round. In early 2009, national coach Joel Santana used him in two friendly matches against Norway and Portugal and called him to the provisional squad for the 2009 Confederations Cup . However, he was not nominated for the final line-up.
