Michael Ray Phillips (born 1946 in Arcata , California ) is an American writer and best-selling author .

Life

Michael Phillips was the son of Army veteran Denver Phillips who was a member of the Army Air Corps in World War II , and his wife ("Rosie the Riveter") Eloise. He was born in the small Northern California university town of Arcata. There he attended Humboldt State College (now a university), where he graduated in 1969 with a degree in physics, mathematics, languages, and then another in education and history. A formative experience with God in Germany in 1969 and also strongly influenced by the writings of the Quaker Thomas Kelly changed the direction in his life fundamentally.

Phillips has published over 50 books and is one of the most popular authors in the United States with a total circulation of over five million copies. In his novels, among other things, he prepares the eventful history of Scotland , which is written both as a thriller and as a historical story .

One of Michael Phillips' wishes in life was to renew the popularity of the Scottish writer George MacDonald , whose teachings were central to the spiritual direction of him and his wife. So he translated some of MacDonald's longer stories, some of which were interspersed with a Scottish accent, into shorter and easier-to-understand editions. His books on the great Scottish saga about the Celtic stone are particularly well known.

Among other things, he worked on the Stonewycke series with the writer Judith Pella. He lives with his family in Eureka , California.
