Michael Schemmann completed a teaching degree for secondary levels I / II in the subjects of English and geography at the Ruhr University Bochum and the University of Brighton, Great Britain, from 1990 to 1995. He then worked as a research assistant at the chair for adult education at the Ruhr University in Bochum . From 2008 to 2013 Michael Schemmann was Professor of Educational Science with a focus on continuing education at the Justus Liebig University in Gießen and since September 2013 he has been Professor of Educational Science at the University of Cologne .
Schemmann deals with explanatory approaches for the emergence and dissemination of international further education policy between world polity and transnational space. He also deals with the determinations of the relationship between neo-institutionalism and educational science. Further topics are the contexts of development and the foundation of neo-institutional organizational analysis as well as the untapped potential of neo-institutionalism - the linking of the analytical levels as a future research focus.
