In 2007 he lectured on contemporary history and integration policy at the Konrad Adenauer Foundation. From 2005 he worked as a lecturer in history at the Mönchengladbach adult education center. From 2009 he was the managing partner of the Learning and Education Academy Mönchengladbach. He was an employee of Günter Krings .

He is the integration officer of the CDU Mönchengladbach. He was appointed by the CDU in North Rhine-Westphalia as one of six Mönchengladbachers as an elector in the 15th Federal Assembly on March 18, 2012 in Berlin. He is a member of the educational working group of the Münster district government for the student competition "Encounters with Eastern Europe". Between 2004 and 2005 he was chairman of the Junge Union Mönchengladbach-Stadtmitte.
Club political activity at Borussia Mönchengladbach
At the annual general meetings of the football club Borussia Mönchengladbach in 2007, 2009, 2010 and 2011 , he acted as the spokesman for a group of club members who wanted to make the club more democratic by proposing amendments to the statutes. Since December 2010 the group has been called Membership Offensive 2007/2011 and comprised several hundred members and supporters of the association. At the annual general meetings in 2009 and 2010, the group achieved several changes to the association's articles of association, including the installation of a further vice-president with responsibility for sports, the enlargement of the association's executive committee, the filling of the supervisory board only by association members and the complete election of the supervisory board by the general meeting . In 2011 there was a public debate with the top of the club and, in particular, another competing group in club politics, the Borussia initiative led by the figurehead Stefan Effenberg . The group pretended to want to make the club more transparent, clearer and more open and denied this objective to the club's management and the Borussia initiative. In a press conference on January 9, 2011, the 2007/2011 membership offensive appeared for the first time as part of a press conference and presented its staff for the management bodies of the association at a further press conference on May 18, 2011. In the run-up to the general meeting on May 29, 2011, the tone between the competing groups of the dispute, which was increasingly being conducted via the media, sharpened significantly. At a demonstration by the Borussia fan scene before the last home game against SC Freiburg, Michael Weigand called on the several thousand supporters present to continue supporting the goals of the member offensive and not to be afraid of Stefan Effenberg and the Borussia initiative. As a result, the Prussia '93 fan club, headed by Michael Weigand, was accused of right-wing ideas through an anonymous e-mail sent to the media from a server abroad. Michael Weigand responded with a criminal complaint against unknown persons. At the general meeting itself, two of the three proposed amendments to the articles of association for the 2007/2011 membership campaign received the necessary majority of the members present, while the Borussia initiative clearly failed with its proposal.
criticism
On March 6, 2012, the Tagesspiegel published excerpts from the Internet, according to which Weigand heads the Prussia93 fan club of Borussia Mönchengladbach , which according to this information on the Internet could have a right-wing extremist background. He is also on a list of the donors of the Junge Freiheit , claimed the Anonymous group . Weigand denies these allegations. The Jusos Mönchengladbach, who had asked Weigand to resign because of the accusation of supporting Junge Freiheit , apologized to him, citing Weigand's own account, as part of a voluntary declaration of cease and desist.
The SPD in NRW considers the reports to be alarming. The North Rhine-Westphalian CDU believes the allegations have been credibly dispelled, but distances itself from the Prussia fan club93 .
