Michael de la Pole, 2nd Earl of Suffolk
Michael de la Pole, 2nd Earl of Suffolk (* before 1367 , † 1415 ) was an English nobleman and son of Michael de la Pole and Katherine Wingfield, daughter of Sir John Wingfield.
His father fled abroad before being indicted by the Merciless Parliament in 1388, forfeiting all of his lands and the title of Earl of Suffolk . For the next decade, Michael tried to get his possessions back. Although he obeyed the Duke of York's call to protect the kingdom against Henry Bolingbroke, he left his army and consented to Richard II's removal from the throne . As a thank you, Henry IV returned his possessions and in January 1392 gave him back the title of Earl. Michael played a pretty small role in politics, despite attending Parliament regularly. He was involved in the conquest of Scotland (1400) and was an English diplomat at the Council of Pisa . Michael was also a lieutenant in the Duke of Clarence during the Duke of Clarence's conquests in 1412. Nonetheless, he spent most of his time building his family's influence in East Anglia. He was a judge in Norfolk and Suffolk since 1399 and was supported by a not inconsiderable number of local nobles. De la Pole completed his father's plans in Wingfield and enlarged the church.
Michael de la Pole took part in Henry V's conquest of France (1415) with 40 armed men and 120 archers. He died in front of Harfleur in the presence of his son Michael of the Ruhr.
