In 1999 he founded society committees together with Mechaal Tamo and Mohammad Abdallah. He accused him of the suppression of all democratic ideas and the secret collaboration with the USA.

In 2005 he initiated the Damascus Declaration , of which Riad Seïf was the first to sign. The goal was the democratization of Syria. In 2006 Kilo was arrested for this. He was released from prison in 2009.

Syrian civil war

In a 2012 interview, Kilo was disappointed that some leftists in the West would describe the Syrian revolution as an Islamist conspiracy and fail to take into account the desire of the Syrian people for freedom. He also criticized the disagreement that prevails in the ranks of the Syrian opposition. On April 15, 2013, he founded the Syrian Democratic Forum in Cairo with people from civil society such as Samir Aita, Areth Delila and Fayez Sara.
