Michel Ter-Pogossian

Michel "Michael" Ter-Pogossian (born April 21, 1925 in Berlin , † June 19, 1996 in Paris ) was an American physicist . Together with Michael E. Phelps, he is considered to be one of the fathers of positron emission tomography .

Ter-Pogossian was born in Berlin and is of Armenian descent. He emigrated via France , where he studied at the University of Paris , together with his parents to the United States, where he worked at the Washington University School of Medicine. In 1957 he became a Fellow of the American Physical Society . In 1993 he received a Gairdner Foundation International Award . He was married with three children and five grandchildren.
