Michiya Haruhata

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Michiya Haruhata ( Japanese 春 畑 道 哉 Haruhata Michiya ; born November 5, 1966 in Machida , Tokyo ) is a Japanese guitarist , composer and member of the band Tube .

biography

Haruhata began his musical education on the piano in elementary school and played keyboard in school bands . In middle school, at the age of 14, he switched to folk guitar and then to electric guitar . In 1984 he entered the competition at the Silkroad Music Festival and was named the best guitarist there .

In 1985, together with Maeda Nobuteru (vocals), Kakuno Hideyuki (bass) and Matsumoto Ryōji (drums), he founded his band Tube , which is still active today, under the name The Tube , thus starting his career as a professional musician. Here, in addition to his main task, playing the guitar, he also played the keyboard. In the year it was founded, the band was able to land a hit with their first single bestseller Summer , make a name for itself and establish itself during this high phase of Japanese pop / rock.

With this success, Haruhata already had a good base in terms of fan base and popularity when his first solo album Drivin came out on February 26, 1987 . He was still active at Tube parallel to his solo career, regularly released albums under both names and completed a tour of the largest cities in Japan in 1991 with the concerts for his album Dream Box , which was released in the same year .

After the first four albums published under his name had been sold without a single, his first single J's Theme appeared in 1992 as the theme tune of the Japanese professional football league . The second and so far last single from Haruhata as a solo artist was Best Day Of Your Life , which was used on Japanese television as the theme song for the World Athletics Championships in 1995 . In 2002 Haruhata got an exclusive contract for his equipment with the American guitar manufacturer Fender . He received a special honor from this company in 2005 when he was the first Asian musician to receive his own signature model from Fender with the Michiya Haruhata BWL Stratocaster . Like Tube , Haruhata has been signed to Sony since his first album in 1987 .

He not only writes under his own name and for Tube, but also works as a composer for other Japanese musicians with the PIPELINE PROJECT together with his Tube colleague Maeda. Outside of Japan , however, it is less well known, despite its national success.

style

From his first solo album onwards, Haruhata clearly distinguished himself in the style of his music from the music he made with Tube . While Tube can be assigned to J-Pop and mainly brings out songs characterized by synthesizer sounds and singing, Haruhata can clearly be assigned to J-Rock with sometimes even hard rock -like elements and only plays instrumental music in which his guitar is the main melody instrument and he can also freely develop compositionally. Haruhata plays a relatively wide range within rock. From anime-like power rock pieces like Shooting Star to ballads like Straight To My Heart to pop and fusion-influenced pieces like Wings . Live he also went on "excursions" into the blues when he appeared with Robben Ford .
