Microlestes maurus is a beetle from the family of ground beetles (Carabidae).
features
Microlestes maurus is a 2.2–2.9 mm large black beetle from the genus Microlestes . The wing covers are shortened. The beetles are probably not able to fly. The wing covers widen backwards. The pronotum is sharply narrowed towards the back. The anal sternite has a small, triangular, granulated field.
Similar species
- Microlestes minutulus - larger, slimmer, different shape of the aedoeagus (male sexual organ)
distribution
The species is widespread in Europe. It is represented in England. However, it is missing in the far north of Europe. In Central Europe it is mainly represented in the east and north, otherwise rarely. In warm regions in southwest Germany, the species is apparently more common than the similar species Microlestes minutulus . To the east, the occurrence extends over the Middle East and the Caucasus to western Asia.
Way of life
The xerophilic beetle species prefers warm slopes, vineyards, coastal dunes and fallow land as habitat. The beetles can be found under bark, moss or leaves at the foot of trees. The adults hibernate.
