Micromount is a term taken from English into German from mineralogy . It is used by mineral collectors to designate specimens that are so small (about 15 × 15 mm and below) that they can best be viewed with optical aids (strong magnifying glass , binocular ). The word part -mount is derived from the English mount (version, bracket), since such tiny minerals are usually fixed on a base.

Specializing in the collection of micromounts has various advantages: Apart from the small footprint, rare minerals of this size can also be obtained more cheaply, and small crystals are often more perfectly formed than large ones.
