ISO 9175 defines, among other things, line widths for hand-held drawing and is used as a test standard for drawing devices( ink pens ).
The tip of an ink pen is called a drawing tube; the minimum lengths and diameters are described in this standard. A correct designation of these tips consists of the designation, the designation of the standard and the line width; Example: Drawing tube ISO 9175 - 1 - 0.7 . An alternative marking would be a color marking inextricably linked to the drawing device; Both variants (then line width only) can also be used at the same time.
The standard replaces the previous DIN standard DIN 6775 from April 1986. DIN 6775 was divided into 2 parts:
- Part 1: Dimensions, labeling
- Part 2: Requirements and testing of line widths,
which were originally replaced by DIN ISO 9175 parts 1 and 2. However, DIN ISO 9175-2 (drawing tubes for hand-held ink drawing devices; execution, requirements and testing) was withdrawn without replacement in July 2006.
In DIN 6775, marking of writing and drawing materials was described with the micronorm symbol, an underlined and underlined lowercase letter m . This symbol was not adopted by the ISO and has therefore been obsolete since June 1990. However, it had proven itself in practice and was still used later.
