Microsoft gadget

A Microsoft gadget is a widget that can be displayed on the desktop under Windows Vista and Windows 7 . Gadgets can be placed freely on the desktop or in a sidebar , which was no longer available in Windows 7 . The open, active gadgets do not appear in the Windows taskbar as usual .

With Windows 8 , the function of Microsoft was discontinued because the company saw a significant risk due to the system. Windows apps were introduced as a replacement .

The Short Notes program, which is included in Windows 7, does not count as a mini-application because it cannot be anchored on the desktop and appears as an open program in the taskbar. Other mini-applications (e.g. news tickers, small games, monitoring tools for computers, etc.) can usually be downloaded for free from Microsoft and other providers on the Internet.

JavaScript and HTML are used as programming languages .

The Gadget Gallery website has been closed due to the Windows 8 app offering.

Microsoft also announced that the sidebar and gadgets will be discontinued due to a security issue. Gadgets are still available on other websites.
