Patrik Gerrbrand (born April 27, 1981 in Älvsjö ) is a Swedish football player . The defender has played his career so far in Sweden, England and Norway .

Career

Growing up in Hagsätra just outside Stockholm , Gerrbrand started playing football at Älvsjö AIK . In 1995 he moved to the youth team at Hammarby IF . There he went through the individual youth teams, where he reached the - ultimately lost - final of the renowned Sankt Erikscupen with the U-16 team . In 1999 he moved up to the junior team playing in the Juniorallsvenskan before he was appointed to the professional squad for the first time in May of the following year. After his debut in the first team on the occasion of a cup game against local rivals IF Brommapojkarna on August 24 of that year, he played half a week later for the first time for the club in the Allsvenskan . Also in the 2001 season, mainly supplementary player, he contributed in five games to winning the Lennart Johansson Cup for the Swedish national champions.

Initially as a supplementary player, coach Anders Linderoth increasingly relied on him as a core player in the defense chain from the 2003 season , so that he ousted Jonas Stark and ran alongside Max von Schlebrügge . At the same time, he played his way into the Swedish U-21 national team in the autumn of that year , for which he played seven games by the coming summer. Meanwhile undisputed regular players, the defender aroused the interest of foreign clubs. In July 2005 he then announced his move to the English second division club Leicester City .

Gerrbrand made his debut for his new club in the League Cup at the end of August 2005 , but was only on the bench at the beginning of the season. He made his league debut in England's second division on October 1 in a 1-1 draw with Derby County and was subsequently used regularly. After various injuries at the turn of the year and in the spring, he was promoted to a substitute again and was only occasionally on the field for the club. In April 2006 he announced that he wanted to prove that he could prevail and was not a transfer flop. In the summer transfer period , however, there were talks with the Norwegian club Fredrikstad FK , with whom he then signed a contract with a term of three and a half years.

In the Tippeligaen , Gerrbrand was a regular player straight away. At the side of Simen Brenne , Raymond Kvisvik , John Anders Bjørkøy and his compatriot Rami Shaaban , he reached the final of the Norwegian Football Cup, which after goals from Hans Erik Ramberg and two-time goalscorer Raio Piiroja against Sandefjord Fotball with a 3-0 win ended. Also in the following season Stammkraft, he had to take a short break due to injury before the start of the 2008 season . Afterwards he fought for a regular place in central defense next to Piiroja and contributed in 21 games of the season to the runner-up behind Rosenborg BK .

In March 2009 Gerrbrand suffered a fracture of the cheekbones and was out for several weeks. He recovered in April when he was only asked to sit on the bench during the game against Stabæk Fotball , after which he left the stadium. In the summer, the club dissolved the contract with the player, who then signed a contract with two and a half years at his first professional station, Hammarby IF. In the relegation battle located club he was immediately in the regular formation, but under coach Tony Gustavsson and his successor Thom Åhlund he missed the club with the relegation. At the beginning of the second division season in 2010 under the newly signed coach Michael Borgqvist on the side of Filip Bergman , Sebastian Castro-Tello , Linus Hallenius and Andreas Dahl in the starting line-up, he fell out for a long time from April because he had injured his thigh muscles. In September he returned to the field as a substitute, but did not get beyond the status of a substitute player until his contract expired at the end of 2011. As a result he was without a club.
